Sensational musical "The Lion King"

The Lion King is a musical based on the Disney animated film of the same name. The performance as a whole repeats the plot of the cartoon. The premiere took place on July 8, 1997 at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, USA. Since that moment, the play has become one of the main attractions of New York and entered the top five of the longest-lived Broadway performances.

"The Lion King" was held in 63 cities around the world, in five different languages and is still being held in New York. During its existence, the musical has been awarded more than 70 significant awards, including the Tony Award in the nomination "Best Musical".

The musical "The Lion King" with songs by Elton John set a box office record on Broadway, ahead of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Since 1997, "The Lion King" has managed to collect $853.8 million, while "The Phantom of the Opera" has earned $853.1 million in its 24 years of theatrical stage.

This devastating success also brought the director of the musical, Julie Taymor, six prestigious Tony Awards. Among them are the best musical, the best choreography and the best costumes. Taymor thereby became the first woman to be awarded this most cherished award.
